These rental properties, located in the Region of Aquitaine in the Department of Dordogne, are 90 kilometers or 54 miles from the Bordeaux airport in a village called VilleFranche De Lonchat. The largest cities near by are Libourne, Saint Emilion and Bergerac.
The region of Aquitaine is known for its spacious Atlantic coastline, 250 kilometers or 150 miles in length to the coast of Spain. This area also lays claim to one of the largest forest areas in Europe with over one million hectares of forest, providing a natural habitat for many unusual forest plants and other living creatures. The regions offer a walk through time with many fortresses and villages, prehistoric sites, including the cave paintings at Lascaux. You can visit the castles of Perigord and the walled cities built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Seven hundred years later these villages offer visitors many year round markets, arts & crafts shops, and restaurants.
The most important city in this region is its capital, Bordeaux. In 1998 the city took a new life with the Fete du Vin and the Fete du Fleuve, the celebration of wine and the river. These festivals opened the city up to many new experiences for the tourists they now welcome. The Bordeaux amateur wine tasting held in May of each year enables many to enjoy the wine productions of some of the oldest vineyards in the world. Bordeaux has a new tram system connecting the airport to the train station and other parts of the city. The Train at Grande Vitesse (TGV) runs daily from Bordeaux to Paris, Toulouse, Cannes and most other major cities.
The Dordogne area includes some of the most popular wine producing villages in France, among them St. Emilion. This medieval village with its ancient stone paved streets, is home to some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Visit the catacombs, hermit’s cave and monolithic church that offer a historical perspective on a very old way of life that still prevails. Walking through the wine shops, art galleries, and bistros give you a sense of how well preserved the way of life in St. Emilion and its wine culture have survived.
